Scaling Productive Use of Renewable Energy (PURE)

🗂️ Project Description

Kenya’s business sector is rapidly shifting toward solar-powered solutions for refrigeration, irrigation, food processing, and other critical operations. However, challenges such as limited financing, inadequate policy support, and outdated standards continue to hinder widespread adoption. Through this project, KEREA is working with GOGLA to accelerate the adoption of PURE technologies and enable businesses to harness renewable energy for productive and income-generating activities.

Key project activities include:

  • Hosting in-person workshops and training sessions to educate businesses on PURE opportunities and financing models.
  •  Developing a National PURE Strategy to provide a structured roadmap for sector growth.
  • Updating regulatory standards for solar-powered and electric appliances, ensuring they meet international and local best practices.
  • Collaborating with financial institutions to improve access to funding for businesses investing in PURE technologies.
  • Strengthening stakeholder partnerships between the private sector, government, and development agencies to promote the adoption of energy-efficient solutions.
