Charles Muchunku (Kenya) Chairman

He has a technical background in solar PV and 8 years of project experience in the energy field in Eastern Africa. He has worked closely with both public and private sector stakeholders on projects targeting commercialization and uptake of renewable, sustainable and clean energy technologies through technical support, capacity building, developing consumer financing schemes for energy products and services, skills transfer and energy policy development.

Renewable Energy Experience:

  • Recruited in 2003 to join Davis & Shirtliff Ltd. www.dayliff.com, East Africa’s largest water equipment supplier, being a group of approx 250 staff with revenues amounting to US$30m and operating from 18 sites in five countries, to start the solar division. Managed to make D&S Solar one of the main renewable energy companies in the region in less than 5years, managing major NGO, Government and public RE projects, as well as distribution of RE equipment in a highly competitive environment.
  • Conducted Solar Trainings in Somaliland and Puntland for Practising Solar Technicians under the Somalia Energy and Livelihood Project
  • Participated in UNEP/GEF PV Project -Training of Trainers in Kenya and Uganda and organised many other related solar trainings in the region
  • A member of the Kenya’s Renewable Energy Resource Technical Committee
  • Over 10years experience in field of Renewable Energy.

Enos Otieno Orongo (Kenya) Committee Member 2

Enos Otieno Orongo has been with “Telesales Solar” since July 1996, and is a sales executive.

He has over 13 years experience in Renewable Energy, and has been involved in designing solar systems based on individual client’s needs.

He has served initially as KEREA’s deputy secretary in 2000, and subsequently as the Treasurer for two terms. Currently he is second committee member of Kerea.

Enos Otieno Orongo has trained at Kenya Polytechnic in Business Studies.

EXPERIENCE & PROJECTS PARTICIPATION-more than 20 years on solar power systems & mains clean power regulation & stabilization. PowerPoint system was register in y2002 with 2 staff which as since grown to 25 full time staff. Having been involved in design and installation of urban centres power back systems, hybrid solar & rural solar systems.amoung biggest systems done: – my aim is to be the CEO of the leading solar company in this region.

Kiragu Mugwe (kenya)Deputy Secretary

Kiragu Mugwe holds a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi and has over 20 years experience garnered in industry and engineering consultancy. He worked for a leading steel manufacturing and construction company in Kenya, Morris and Company Ltd, where he rose to be the Chief Engineer/Asst General Manager before joining Alane International as the Executive Director in 1996. Subsequently with fellow energy professionals formed Que Energy Ltd in 2007 where he is the Executive Director.

Kiragu Mugwe has handled a large number of energy, industrial and civil engineering projects throughout Kenya and has worked in Central and Southern Africa where he was involved in the promotion of cost effective housing and civil engineering works, project management and mini and micro hydro development for various authorities. The firm has recently concluded feasibility studies for 12 sites countrywide for small hydro power for the Ministry of Energy. He is a member of a number of professional bodies including Engineers Registration Board of Kenya, Entrepreneurs International, SAEE, amongst others.
